Overview --> London - Sydney 1998-1999 London - Sydney 1998-1999 A successful attempt to make the world's first ever crossing without the use of ferries from London to Singapore, then continuing to Sydney. The expedition raised over £30,000 for hospices in London and Sydney. The team consisted of 8 (5 men and 3 women), based out of two Land Rovers
and a Microlight aircraft. Over 7 months were taken to cross 22 countries,
and 20,212 miles (over 32,000km). From the lowest point under the channel,
to crossing the Tibetan Himalaya (5220m), and with temperatures over 40C
in the shade (Pakistan) and to -30C out of wind (China), the team stuck
together to achieve this incredible journey. Expedition Leader Sam Rutherford
found the process (from idea to completion) exhausting but extremely rewarding!
