Overview --> AusTrek 1999, Australia AusTrek 1999, Australia Prepare2go provided the logistics support to this Australian Geographic expedition to retrace the explorer Charles Sturt's route across Australia. The core team used camels, and Sturt's original compass (kindly loaned by the Sturt Trust), to follow his tracks north from Adelaide. The use of the same transport, and navigational equipment, allowed the same errors to be made - aiding the attempt to follow his exact route. Prepare2go supplied a support team, out of two 4wds, to keep the expedition in communication with the outside world and with supplies of food and water. The expedition took 5 months to travel from Adelaide to Alice Springs, and achieved some of the aims - Sturt's abandoned whaler boat (taken to cross the 'great inland sea'!) was not, and has still not been, found.
